About HyggeHorror
Making dark fiction cozy, one Friday at a time
What is Hygge Horror?
Hygge is a Danish concept of warmth, comfort, and contentment. Horror is... well, you know what horror is.
Put them together and you get my Friday night ritual: candles lit, blanket ready, something dark and gripping in hand. The practice of making thriller, horror, and mystery reading intentional, atmospheric, and weirdly cozy.
It's controlled fear in a safe space. Exploring darkness from the comfort of your reading nook.
The Two-Axis Rating System
Most book ratings collapse everything into one number. "Five stars!" But is it five stars for being scary, or five stars for being good? There's a difference.
I rate every book on two dimensions:
Why Two Dimensions Matter
A light, brilliant mystery (🕯️🕯️ + ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐) is very different from a dark, mediocre slasher (🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️ + ⭐⭐). The two-axis system lets you find exactly what you're in the mood for.
Want something intense but well-written? Filter for 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️+ and ⭐⭐⭐⭐+. Want a cozy weekend read? Look for 🕯️🕯️ and any quality level. You decide.
Who Built This?
I'm Rasmus, a Danish software engineer who spent years staring at screens instead of books. I used to devour novels as a kid. Then came the career, the endless scrolling, the dopamine trap of social media.
Now I'm clawing my reading life back. Every day, I read. Every Friday, I light candles and dive into something dark. And every Friday, I share what I found, rated by darkness and quality.
I built this database because I wanted it. A place to track what I've read, filter by intensity, and actually remember why I liked (or didn't like) each book. If it's useful to you too, that's a bonus.
This is the recommendation engine I always wanted but could never find.
Hygge Horror Friday
Every Friday, I post a new book recommendation. Candles lit, whiskey poured, book in hand. That's my ritual.
Each book gets the two-axis rating, a short review, and a verdict: who should read it, who should skip it. No fluff, no sponsored nonsense, just honest takes on dark fiction.
The Friday series lives on Instagram and RasmusReads.com. This database is where all those reviews live, searchable and filterable.
